Office Cleaning Tips this Fall

During the fall season, temperature would become colder and colder. People in this season are more susceptible to becoming sick (fall allergy, cold, flu, etc.). In our respective workplace or office, just one worker falling ill can begin a dire chain reaction that could affect productivity. Virus, dust, and allergens are the culprit for absentee employees. It is essential then to take time to ensure that our workplace or office is properly prepared; like a rigorous schedule of dust and germ prevention to keep the air fresh and pure, and the surfaces clean or office ready for employees and clienteles. Here are some tips that would keep our workplace or office this fall clean for the protection of ourselves and our coworkers:

  1. BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN DESK

We spend a lot of time at our designated desks. What tends to happen is dust accumulation; hence, it is very important that we should organize our things. Things that no longer works should be sent to get fixed or if possible, throw it out. Bear in mind to keep only things that are essential and do not retain things that you’re hoping to find a use for it one day. Get rid of loose papers, sticky notes, staples, and other supplies you no longer need. Rearrange your workspace for both aesthetic value and efficiency.

Always make time to dust your table, concentrate on high dust areas, and wipe it down with a cleaner.

2. SANITIZE YOUR WORK AREAS

We touch a lot of items during our stay at the office; therefore, it is important that before you go home for the day, you should wipe down and sanitize items after you have finished using them. Keep a steady supply of hand sanitizer on hand, at your desk as well as other public areas to eliminate germ transmission. Sanitize your hands before leaving the bathroom, coughing and/or sneezing, handling doorknobs that many people use.

3. CLEANING COMPUTER KEYBOARD

Another thing that we always touch during our work is our computer. Germs can’t get enough of all those gaps in your keyboard. If you are using a laptop, shut it down first before clearing. Prevent the spread of germs with these keyboard cleaning tips:

  1. Shake-up your keyboard and do this outside or over a trash bin.

  2. Use a can of compressed air to remove the remaining dust and food particles from behind the keys.

  3. If you do not have canned air, the remedy is to fold a sticky note in half, with the sticky part facing out. Run it through the cracks on your keyboard to collect debris.

  4. Dip cotton swabs in alcohol and swipe them between the keys.

  5. Disinfect the top of the keyboard by spraying disinfectant on a piece of cloth and run it through the top of the keyboard.

4. CLEANING COMPUTER MONITOR

Dust-free ventilation slots is a must to help our computer keep its cool. For safety purposes, always unplug monitor from the power source before doing the following:

  1. Wipe monitor with a damp microfiber cloth.

  2. Use vacuum with an upholstery brush to remove dust between the gaps.

  3. Clean glass by spraying glass cleaner on a cloth and wipe it over the monitor.

4. CLEANING OFFICE CHAIR

Your office chair is where you spend most of your time during office hours. This sling literally supports you on the job. Thus, it is also a place where virus, dust, and allergens thrive. But before you start cleaning and sanitizing it, look for the upholstery tag. This will guide you in your cleaning and keeping it last longer.

  1. For cushion fabric and water-safe, use a spray bottle with a few drops of dish soap.

  2. For upholstery that isn’t water-safe, fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and 20 drops of essential oils.

  3. For leather office chairs, mix a few drops of dish soap with a half-gallon of warm water. Use cloth to wipe down the leather with this solution, but don’t soak the leather. Once you’re finished, apply a leather conditioner to maintain the fabric.

The above-mentioned tips are simple ways where each employee can take part, in order to avoid the spread of germs, dust, virus. Especially now that we are in the midst of pandemic. Always remember that “prevention is always better than cure.” Also, taking part in maintaining one’s workplace would help us maintain a healthy workplace and it would prevent compromising our health and the health of our colleagues as well.
